The focus for Fair Trade Fortnight 2007 in the ACT is involving supporters in hosting 'Fair Cuppa' events in their workplaces. 'Fair Cuppa' events are simple morning or afternoon teas that people organise in their workplace to promote fair trade and the purchase/consumption of Fairtrade certified tea and coffee - both at work and in the home. More details are below.

Additional to the 'Fair Cuppa' events, there are three other events being held during the Fortnight that you can participate in.


Event title: ACT Fair Cuppa

Brief description: Organise a Fairtrade morning or afternoon tea, with Fairtrade tea and coffee, in your workplace or organisation. See the Users Guide to the ACT Fair Cuppa for more information (it explains what is in your pack and how to run the event).

Where: wherever your office is!

When: any time during Fair Trade Fortnight (28 April to 13 May)

Cost: $5 will get you a starter pack including tea, coffee, promotional materials and other information

Event: REGNET Lunchtime Seminar on fair trade 

When: Tuesday 1 May 2007, 12:30pm - 1:30pm

What and where: Cameron Neil, Fairtrade Certification Analyst for Fairtrade Labelling Australia & New Zealand, will present on "Fairtrade, nodes and governance: Tales of stakeholder interaction in the Fairtrade certification world".

The global Fairtrade certification system involves a dynamic network of stakeholder nodes including producers, traders, consumers, certifiers, standard setters, retailers, and transnational companies. Cameron will use two recent examples of the operation of the Fairtrade certification system to illustrate the interaction of these nodes and how decisions are made and influenced - (1) deliberations to increase the Fairtrade price and premium for Fairtrade coffee for the first time in 15 years, and (2) the setting of Fairtrade cotton and garment standards.

Event: AtTENtion all ALLIES - Rock Out For Fair Trade!

When: Saturday April 28th, 2.30pm start

What and where: All ages concert with 12 bands - Lamexcuse, Little Smoke, Fistful of Nothing, Dahahoo, Eldest Son, Paqman, My Onus, Haunted Attics, Jafuska, Stolen Exit, Arcade Hero (Melb) & Ellora (Melb) - coinciding with the beginning of Fair Trade Fortnight, to raise awareness and fundraise for Oxfam Australia @ Jamison Inn, 3 Bowman Street, Macquarie

Cost: $10 entry (includes a Make Poverty History wrist band) available at door.
