ANU College Fairtrade Coffee tastings
ANU College residents will be holding the first social gathering for resident ANU students to taste - & talk about - Fairtrade coffee, and is also the first event to kick of the ACT’s Fair Trade Fortnight. A great informal event for ANU students who want to meet up with friends over a beautifully-tasting Fairtrade coffee, and to learn more about what makes Fairtrade coffee so special when it comes to making a direct and positive difference to the lives of marginalised producers.

Fairtrade event & seminar with Macgregor Primary School
Year 6 children from Macgregor Primary School will be hosting a Fairtrade event including a seminar with two coffee producers from Highlands Organic Agriculture Cooperative, a Fairtrade coffee producer in Papua New Guinea, who are on speaking tour for Fair Trade Fortnight. The producers will be sharing their story with the children about Fairtrade and its benefits to their lives and lives of their families and communities – and the direct and positive difference ACT children and their families can make by purchasing Fairtrade Labelled products.

Fairtrade Poster Display, Afternoon Tea & Seminar
Year 9 students from Lyneham High School will put on a display in their school library of posters about Fair Trade developed in their Commerce class. Lyneham High teachers will also enjoy a Fairtrade afternoon tea (TBC). The afternoon will be topped off with a seminar for Lyneham High students and teachers with coffee producers from Highlands Organic Agriculture Cooperative, a Fairtrade coffee cooperative in Papua New Guinea, on speaking tour for Australia’s Fair Trade Fortnight 2006. The producers will be sharing their story with students about Fairtrade and its benefits to their lives and lives of their families and communities – and the direct and positive difference ACT students and their families can make for producers in developing countries by purchasing Fairtrade labelled products.

From Mountain Top to Counter Top: the life of the Fairtrade coffee bean
High Commissioner of PNG hosts reception for ACT café/retail industry with PNG Fairtrade coffee producers promoting Fairtrade coffee. The PNG High Commissioner will highlight the importance of trade between PNG and Australia for PNG’s economic and social development. The producers will discuss the production of the Fairtrade coffee bean and the impact of Fairtrade on their lives. A representative for Jasper Coffee (Melbourne) will discuss the company’s business with PNG Fairtrade coffee producers and the unique value/quality of Fairtrade Labelled coffee for Australian consumers. Mr. Cameron Neil of Fairtrade Labelling Australia & New Zealand will highlight the business opportunity for the ACT retail and café industry by discussing current trends in Fairtrade coffee market growth in Australia.

Coffee producers from Highlands Organic Agriculture Cooperative, Fairtrade coffee cooperative in PNG, will be interviewed as part of their speaking tour during Fair Trade Fortnight. They will be sharing their story with radio show co-hosts about Fairtrade and its benefits to their lives and lives of their families and communities, and what local ACT coffee drinkers can do to help make a positive difference to the lives of small-scale coffee producers in Australia’s neighbouring countries.

Meet the Makers: Coffee-tasting for Members and staff of the ACT Legislative Assembly
Fairtrade coffee morning for ACT MLA's and their staff in the Exhibition Space at the Assembly. Fairtrade coffee producers from Highlands Organic Agriculture Cooperative, a Fairtrade coffee coop in Papua New Guinea, will meet and discuss their experience with Fairtrade, coffee growing, and the coffee in the cup as MLA’s and staff enjoy their morning cuppa.

World (Fair Trade) Cup: Inter-campus soccer match, Fairtrade style!
ANU and UC campus students will be holding a friendly Fairtrade soccer match between local ANU and UC students. Wider community members also welcome to join in the fun! Oxfam Trading will be there with Fairtrade coffees, teas and chocolate on sale. Info about Fairtrade products, and specifically Fairtrade soccer balls made by Pakistani Fairtrade coops, will also be available. A great afternoon to have fun with friends and to learn about and support Fairtrade!

An African AfFAIR, A Chocolate Revolution
The Ghanaian High Commissioner will co-host with the ACT Oxfam Fair Trade Group a public reception for invited guests with two Fairtrade cocoa producers from Ghana. Following the High Commissioner’s speech, Kylie Kwong, Australia’s First Ambassador for Fair Trade & celebrity chef, will speak, as will the cocoa producers. Selected ACT restaurateurs will present to guests a pre-prepared selection of chocolate desserts and sweets prepared from Fairtrade labelled chocolate, which a panel of ACT food critics will then review. Invited guests will be offered the Fairtrade fare and Fairtrade labelled coffees.
Event aims to promote to ACT consumers, local restaurateurs and chefs the value of using and consuming Fairtrade chocolate for its direct & positive impact on the lives of Ghanaians.

Women Empower Women: From Cocoa Bean to Chocolate Bar
ACT’s Minister for Women, Katie Gallagher, will host a lunch reception for local ACT women and women’s organisations to highlight how women in the ACT can help empower and make a positive difference to the lives of women worldwide living in poverty - by buying Fairtrade chocolate. Two female Ghanaian cocoa producers from Kuapa Kokoo, a Fairtrade producer cooperative, will explain how Fairtrade has empowered them and had a direct impact on their lives and the lives of their children and families. Kylie Kwong, Australia’s first Ambassador for Fair Trade and female celebrity chef, will also speak, highlighting the importance of buying Fairtrade Labelled chocolate as a direct means of empowering women producers worldwide, and describing her aim to do so through her work and role as Fair Trade Ambassador.
Lunch and coffee from women-only coffee-cooperative in Peru, Café Femenino will be provided. Lucky-door prizes include: Cocolo chocolate hampers and Kylie’s latest recipe book.
Event aims to highlight to local ACT female community their ability to directly and positively impact on the lives of other women worldwide by buying Fairtrade labelled products such as Fairtrade labelled chocolate.
