Pay Fairtrade Forward experiment a success

Fairtrade and the P3 Foundation, organiser of the Pay Fairtrade Forward experiment on Friday 14th May would like to congratulate and thank all those who took part.

The social science experiment based a successful project in the US was a first for New Zealand. More than 200 volunteers assembled in over 50 locations selling Fairtrade coffee across New Zealand. They started the day by buying the person next to them their drink. The next person was then encouraged to pay Fairtrade forward by doing the same.

Support for the project continued throughout the day with success measured by how many café’s still had customers paying Fairtrade forward the end of the day. By midday 50% of locations were still running and customers at 40% of the locations were still getting the Fairtrade message across by paying for the person next in line’s drink at the end of the day.

Well done New Zealand!
